The Mobile Web Will Find a Way In Emerging Markets

Technology is, in general, a great thing. It empowers us with information, entertains us with social activity, and allows us to explore our creativity. The mobile web plays its part in that equation, but it is something that many of us take for granted.

Yet it is far more disappointing to realize that many emerging countries don’t have access to these services because of the immense data requirements and poor infrastructure. However, Vodafone and Opera are taking small steps that will have huge impacts, and it starts by leveraging what these companies already have.

What these two intend to do is quite simple: they will utilize Vodafone’s existing 2G data infrastructure, which is already available to many of these emerging markets, and Opera’s Mini 5 Web browser, which will utilize unique compression techniques to deliver that data efficiently, to enable consumers to access the mobile Web from their phones.

The two companies are also teaming up to add a friendlier interface with the intention of helping those who are not as literate as others.

Around 20 future devices are slated to have this mobile technology built into the devices, and it is certainly a step in the right direction.

Vodafone and Opera are hoping that adoption of the mobile Web will increase substantially in these markets, and we believe that this is a good thing.

We also hope that telecommunication technologies can find their ways to even more countries in the near future.
