The updated design of the Big Red London Bus was revealed today, and yes, it’s still Big and Red.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, unveiled the new design today, and it should begin appearing on the streets in 2012.

Using state-of-the-art technology and cutting edge techniques, the buses are more environmentally friendly, open and airy and visually striking, all while still retaining the retro look of the older iconic bus design.

Johnson was thrilled with the design, saying he expected cities around the globe to be beside themselves with envy of the new look.

“This iconic new part of our transport system is not only beautiful, but also has a green heart beating beneath its stylish, swooshing exterior. It will cut emissions, and give Londoners a bus they can be proud of, complete with cutting edge design, and the freedom of an open platform.”

The buses retain the infamous “hop on, hop off” rear platform that the old design was so well known for.

Looks good and functional, but it’s not a very timeless look. In 10 years will it still give off that fresh feeling?
