Angry AdMob Brandishes Torch and Pitchfork at Apple

Thanks to a change in Apple’s iOS developer agreement , AdMob is now banned from iAd. But AdMob isn’t taking it lying down.

“Let’s be clear. This is not in the best interests of users or developers,” says AbMob’s CEO, Omar Hamoui of the move. “In the history of technology and innovation, it’s clear that competition delivers the best outcome. Artificial barriers to competition hurt users and developers and, in the long run, stall technological progress.”

That’s a pretty good point, Omar, and let’s be honest: between the App Store, the iPad, and now this, stalling technological progress sometimes seems to be something that Apple is very invested in.

Hamoui continues, stating that Apple’s walled garden is “not in the best interests of users or developers.

“This change threatens to decrease – or even eliminate – revenue that helps to support tens of thousands of developers. The terms hurt both large and small developers by severely limiting their choice of how best to make money. And because advertising funds a huge number of free and low cost apps, these terms are bad for consumers as well.”

Apparently, Hamoui says AdMob and Apple will be having a stern little talk on the matter, but knowing Big Steve, it’s doubtful whether or not such a talk will have any effect. Y’know, not to mention AdMob is a Google company. Frankly, I think the best Hamoui can hope for at this point is that iAd just doesn’t catch on.

That clause only limits Admob’s ability to collect user stats from the iPhone.
They can still sell ads on the iPhone, just no data collection.
If you think about it, why would Apple let Google collect usage stats from iPhones users? It’s like putting a spy right in your own bedroom.
