Dell Grapples Apple in Latest Campaign

Dell is so cute. Remember that totally handy OS guide they posted about how to choose between Windows and Ubuntu? This is the same kind of cute.

In a bid to compete with Apple, Dell is amidst an ‘Apples to Apples‘ campaign which sees its Studio line go head to head with none other than the MacBook Pro. Both are powered by the Intel Core I7, and Dell’s 15″ model is $950 bucks, compared to the Macbook Pro 15-inch’s $2199 tag. Seems like a steal for comparable power.

But Dell’s not being entirely honest, not only conveniently omitting the fact that Dell’s I7 is a 1.73GHz chip (next to Apple’s 2.66GHz), but also pitting its lowest price machine against Apple’s creme de la creme.

Typical business practice? Well, yeah. It’s not like this doesn’t happen a lot, in every industry. But come on, Dell. We’re geeks. We got this locked down. Who you foolin’?

    I’m so glad they did this. I have the dell studio xps and it sh#ts on the macbook pro. The only thing its better at is battery life.

      This apples to apples thing is a good idea but it’s an unfair comparison – The MacBook Pro is leaps and bounds better than the Studio 15. A better comparison would be the MacBook to the Studio 15 or the MacBook Pro to the XPS.

      Now I’m no apple fanboy but I can appreciate a good product. The MBP still tops the XPS in more ways than one. It has a much nicer display (1680 x 1050) the chasis is unibody aluminium and the SLI graphics benchmark scores much higher than the XPS, not to mention OS X vs. Windows.

      Is it worth $1,000 more than the Dell? Probably not. But definitely a better machine.

    Obviously Dell is targeting geeks with this campaign. The fact of the matter is you can get more computer for the money when buying a PC even if they aren’t really comparing apples to apples.

    omg, that is totally ridicules, they could have picked any model/ variant of the macbook pro, which would make it less expensive than then the dell or far better spec. every time a dell computer in that comparison has a screen more than 720p its ’720p hi-def’, the base model of the macbook pro 15 is 900p, and that gets no hi-def after it.
