Nissan takes the Leaf EV on a tour around the country

Last month, Nissan announced a major milestone, having delivered 4,000 Leaf electric vehicles to customers in the U.S. As a record number of consumers take delivery of the innovative Leaf, Nissan is bringing test drives of the all-electric marvel to 26 cities across the country.

Nissan’s “Drive Electric Tour” kicked of late last year, but the automaker recently began the second phase of the tour on July 8 in New York. Currently the Leaf is available in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Tennessee, Texas, Oregon and Washington, but it will become available in additional markets later this year.

According to Nissan, more than 350,000 people have expressed interest in the Leaf by signing up for updates, including information on how to purchase and reserve the vehicle. The country-wide tour is expected to pique the interest of additional consumers curious about EV technology.

“As the Nissan Leaf gains momentum in its U.S. rollout, more consumers have expressed the desire to get behind the wheel and experience gas-free driving for themselves,” said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, NNA. “We’re thrilled to bring the ‘Drive Electric Tour’ to new cities across the country, as well as revisit several key markets where consumer interest continues to grow.”

The Nissan Leaf is the world’s first 100-percent electric, zero-emission vehicle available to the mass market. Powering the Leaf is a 107-horsepower electric-motor that runs on power supplied by lithium-ion cells. On a full-charge, the Leaf is capable to traveling approximately 100 miles and can reach a top speed of 90 mph.
