Apple schmapple, Android apps are amazing

If you’re a smart phone owner you use apps, it’s as simple as that. You might use some more than others (Facebook – cough, cough), but regardless they are an integral part of your smartphone experience.

More importantly though – where are you getting these apps? Of course there is the ever-popular Apple store, but it looks like Android is stepping up as a contender in the app match-up. With over 300 million Android smartphones across the globe and 850,000 daily Android activations, Android seems to have taken the mobile world by storm.

Besides making the users happy, Android provides a better marketplace for commercial developers. The Android store only requires a $25 one time registration fee, the option to feature apps in other stores and the opportunity to earn up to 70% of revenue on sales, compared to the Apple store which has a yearly fee of $90 and the app is limited to the Apple store. Not to mention that the Android platform is open which allows any developer to create and distribute any app.

Android apps appear to be leading in the social media app arena as well, with 4 out of 5 people using Facebook for Android and their Facebook app being accessed 68% of days within a month as compared to the iPhone Facebook app which is accessed 58% of days with a month. Also, Android social media apps have widgets that let you browse people quickly without having to launch any apps. This is very convenient for all the social media lovers, as compared to the iPhone where you have to unlock and then open the app to retrieve any information. Smartphone users want instant gratification, and Android seems to provide it.

It’s not just one category that Android apps seem to be thriving in either. They offer all the same popular iPhone music apps such as Pandora and Rhapsody but the difference is that most of them have widgets. These widgets give you the option to use multiple music apps without actually having to open the individual apps, something you can’t do on the iPhone.
