Zombie warning broadcast over hacked TV station emergency alert system

If you hacked into the emergency alert system for a local television channel, what would you tell your part of the world? Hackers hit KRTV in Montana and decided to warn of a zombie invasion affecting several counties.

They didn’t use the word “zombie” during the broadcast but described bodies rising from the ground and attacking people. They had the standard warnings – do not attempt to apprehend, etc. – and had a voiceover playing while behind the familiar warning sounds and a scrolling message at the top of the broadcast. KRTV confirmed the hack.

Someone apparently hacked into the Emergency Alert System and announced on KRTV and the CW that “dead bodies are rising from their graves” in several Montana counties.

This message did not originate from KRTV, and there is no emergency.

Our engineers are investigating to determine what happened and if it affected other media outlets.

Ironically, the show that was interrupted was discussing, “Teen Cheaters Take Lie Detectors.” Here’s the video:
