Will cars someday have a social media feature?

Picture this. You are driving your car on the highway, and you decide to tweet about the lack of traffic on your morning commute. By hitting a button on your steering wheel and speaking when prompted, you can easily tweet to your followers without even glancing at your smart phone. This is technology that we may eventually see in our cars.

With social media becoming more and more a part of everyday life, and phone-related driving accidents increasing, it is not crazy to think this could happen. One of the benefits of this feature would be the safety it brings to drivers. Unfortunately, drivers can’t seem to avoid using their phones when driving. Whether it is texting, looking at Facebook, or checking what Kim Kardashian tweeted. I mean let’s be honest, social media is everywhere. All businesses have social media, celebrities have it, sports teams have it, your grandparents have it and Donald Trump’s hair has its own as well, so why not your car?

Rumor has it that some car companies like Mercedes, Cadillac, and Honda, are already planning ways to integrate social media into their vehicles. Mercedes is working on a telematic feature that allows drivers to interact with Facebook and other social media services. Also, the Honda Accord has come out with a feature that allows you access to social media through the screen located on the center dash. However a step in the right direction, Honda has not broken the hands-free social media barrier just yet.

With some cars showing signs of advancement in the social media department, I think it is safe to say that this technology is only going to evolve into something innovative and new to the car industry. It is only a matter of time before tweeting from behind the wheel is a common luxury in cars. Overall  though, I hope it reduces the accident count by taking less people off of their phones.

It’s really already here. It is not a matter of if or when… It is a matter of how deep the integration will go.

In this day and age, with how fast technology moves, I no longer even ask what if. Anything and everything is possible.
