Even the mighty Prius can’t keep their price tag up

Electric may be the future of automotive technology, but that future simply isn’t getting here quickly enough for automakers. The Prius, a car that epitomizes the eco-friendly automobile movement, is just the latest green machine to cut its price in an attempt to stimulate sales.

Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it is cutting the price of its Prius plug-in hybrid electric vehicle by more than $2,000, making it the latest automaker to cut prices of electric vehicles because of lower-than-expected demand.

Toyota reduced the price on the 2014 Prius Plug-in hybrid by $2,010 to $29,990, a 6 percent price cut.
