Gaming hardware sales are down while gaming software sales are up

Gaming hardware sales have been going down for a few years now due to current-gen consoles becoming more and more dated. The release of the Wii U was supposed to be the beginning of the next generation but mild reception and terrible sales have kept the system down. However, this months is going to see the release of the PS4 and the Xbox One which are expected to make gaming hardware sales skyrocket.

No surprise: Once again, U.S. gaming hardware sales are down year over year, according to the latest numbers put out by the NPD Group today. Between October 2012 and October 2013, hardware sales dropped 8 percent to $171.7 million across all platforms.
