Walgreens opens America’s first green, self-powered pharmacy in Illinois

Walgreens has opened America’s first green, self-powered pharmacy in Illinois, not too far from the company’s headquarters. The pharmacy uses solar panels and wind turbines to generate its power and makes use of geothermal energy and LED lighting as well.

It’s been said that sunshine is the best disinfectant, but might it also be good medicine? Walgreens is betting on it with the opening of their solar-powered drug store of the future — America’s first dedicated retail space that generates all off the energy it needs to operate on-site.
