Hulu Plus tops 5 million subscribers, promises more original content

Hulu will pass the $1 billion mark in revenue for 2013, marking an increase of nearly one-third over its 2012 revenues. This according to a post last week on Hulu’s official blog. Since 2010, the television and movie-streaming service’s revenue has more than tripled, and revenues are up nearly $900 million since 2009. While the service now counts five million Hulu Plus subscribers as its base, it still trails rival Netflix by tens of millions.

New Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins chimed in this week with the video streaming site’s yearly recap, and pointed out a few big numbers as evidence it’s headed in the right direction. In 2013 Hulu will top $1 billion in revenue and 5 million paying customers for its Hulu Plus service, which compares to $695 million and 3 million subscribers in 2012, and 4 million subscribers back in April.
