Obama kicks off Computer Science Education Week with Code.org

This week is shaping up to be the biggest Computer Science Education Week yet. The annual event, meant to promote computer programming education worldwide, is focusing on a new “Hour of Code” initiative powered by the non-profit Code.org. The goal: To give students a taste of coding with an hour-long program.

By now you may have heard about the United States’ woeful lack of public coding classes, despite the economy’s ever-growing need for technical workers. For five years now, Computer Science Education Week has existed as a call to mobilize people to learn to program.
