Samsung is about to remind us why it’s the king

Beyond the massive marketing budget, through all the gadget spam and past the dozens of distracting Apple-bashing ads, Samsung is still the best in the business when it comes to smartphone displays. And in 2014, it looks like we’re going to get a pretty huge reminder of exactly why Samsung is king when it comes to screens.

According to a report from DDaily, Samsung has begun mass producing 5.25-inch AMOLED displays for the Galaxy S5, reaffirming a previous report that claimed mass production would begin near the end of December. The new display has a diamond pixel arrangement like the S4 and Note 3′s display – green pixels interleaved with alternating red and blue pixels, but with each red and blue pixel shaped like a diamond for increased sharpness and pixel density. The resolution of the screen is 2,560×1,440, equating to a pixel density of 560 ppi, and rumors suggest an LCD variant of the S5 might exist as well.
