Mobile messaging startup Blink gets acquired by Yahoo

Yahoo has purchased Blink, poaching the top talent behind the messaging app as the company continues to expand its reach within mobility. The team behind Blink posted an update Tuesday which revealed the deal, saying that Blink staff will be joining the tech giant. The mobile application allowed users to send text messages, pictures and audio files that would self-destruct in a similar manner to the popular messaging service Snapchat. Once a message is sent, it can only be viewed for a certain timeframe before content deletes itself.

The Internet giant has acquired mobile messaging startup Blink, an app that lets the sender set a time upon which the message will self-delete, and will group its team into Yahoo’s “smart communications” products once Blink is shut down in a few weeks. Yahoo has acquired Blink, a mobile messaging application that allows users to send messages that will ‘self-destruct’ at a specific time chosen by sender. The app will be shut down in a few weeks as Blink’s team go on to work for Yahoo’s “smart communication” products. The deal was announced on the app’s website: “We built Blink because we believe everyone should be free to show the same honesty and spontaneity in their online conversations as they can in person,” the company said, “We look forward to the possibilities that will come from bringing the Blink vision to Yahoo.”
