Apple will reportedly be sticking with a dual-core processor for its A8 chip

While Android phones and tech companies such as Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Samsung, and MediaTek have long left behind dual-core processors and have since advanced to quad-core and even octa-core chipsets, it looks like Apple could still be sticking to their guns. Apple has been rumored to use their upcoming A8 processor the iPhone 6. While we expect that Apple will continue the trend of 64-bit chipsets like with the A7, it is unclear if Apple will turn to quad-core for the A8. Unfortunately according to the recent rumors, it seems that Apple will continue to use a dual-core processor setup for the A8. This rumors comes from Chinese website, CnBeta, who revealed that Apple will only be bumping its processor speed instead.

It’s been a rather busy couple of weeks in Apple’s camp, and numerous leaks, rumors and reports regarding the company’s upcoming flagship phone(s) continued to pop-up like mushrooms after the rain. Unsurprisingly, we’re now adding a new rumor to the pile, and this time around, the latest iPhone 6-related reports target the handset’s processor – the Apple A8 chip. Earlier today the entire Chinese media went crazy over a new rumor suggesting that the iPhone 6′s Apple A8 SoC will boast frequencies of 2.0 GHz or more per core (quite an increase from iPhone 5S’ 1.3Ghz A7 SoC). As some of you know, past reports have indicated that the CPU will be clocked at frequencies of up to 2.6 GHz. In addition, the new rumor also suggest that the chipset will continue to adopt a 64-bit dual-core architecture and that it will be built using the 20nm process. We know a lot of you were expecting/hoping that the new iPhone will feature more than two cores, but seeing that A7′s performance was way better than most of the quad and octa cores in Android’s camp, it’s safe to say that Apple knows what it’s doing.
