The HTC One E8 has arrived on Sprint

Jonesing for a taste of the HTC One M8 lifestyle but don’t have the cash to make it happen? Never fear, Sprint has just started offering the fantastic-in-plastic HTC One E8 to customers who want M8 horsepower without the matching price tag. No, really: in case you’ve forgotten, the E8 features the exact same screen, BoomSound speakers, processor and RAM as its slightly upmarket brother. The only real difference is that the E8 only comes with 16GB of internal storage and the fact that HTC ditched the Duo camera setup in favor of a more traditional 13-megapixel sensor ’round the back.

After inadvertently tipping its hand earlier in the month, Sprint is ready to officially talk about the HTC One E8, the global version of which CNET has reviewed. On Friday, the carrier announced the immediate availability of another more wallet-friendly take of the HTC One M8 series of smartphones. The One E8 is wrapped in a polycarbonate shell, which makes for a lighter in-hand experience. Key hardware features include a 5-inch HD display, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a front-facing 5-megapixel selfie-snapper. Powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, the One E8 comes with 16GB of internal storage, with the option for expansion via microSD. The One E8 runs a very current version of Android, 4.4.2 KitKat, and the Sense 6.0 UI delivers the custom touches HTC fans have come to appreciate. As for color options, you can buy the HTC One E8 in either Polar White or Misty Gray with silver accents for $99 with a two-year service agreement. Alternatively, qualified Easy Pay customers can scoop up the phone for $0 down (plus tax) and 24 payments of $20.84 per month, for a grand total of $500. It’s initially a Web exclusive, but Sprint said it will offer the phone in retail stores in a few weeks.
