GoPro’s affordable HERO camera is hitting stores in mid-October

If the latest reports are to be believed, GoPro is preparing to launch its latest waterproof sports adventure camera, Hero 4, sometime in mid-October 2014. According to Jim Duffy, an analyst with Stifel, the launch of the GoPro Hero 4 will be the biggest action camera event to date. A report by ValueWalk.com said that the research firm is of the view that the latest camera from GoPro will be priced at $499 – a significant increase from the price of Hero 3+ Black, which sells for $399. However, the San Mateo-based manufacturing company has yet to confirm the release date of GoPro Hero 4.

Just a few days after a leak saying that GoPro would release a new GoPro HERO4 mountable camera, new leaks today say that the company will also release a more modestly-priced camera called the HERO. Reports say that the new camera will be very similar in looks and feature set to the more expensive HERO4. The GoPro HERO4 Black edition features 4K/30 video, and a Silver edition features a touch display. The HERO, on the other hand, has neither of those features, and also no wireless connectivity through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, Petapixel reports. The HERO will sport 1080p30 and 720p60 video capture. A “QuikCapture” feature allows lets the user click one button on the camera to power up and begin shooting. The best video footage is often the most unexpected, so this feature is likely to be greeted warmly by action video enthusiasts. The HERO is waterproof down to 131 feet. A “Burst Photo” feature snaps 5 megapixel still frames at a rate of 5 shots per second.
