Bose agrees to dismiss patent lawsuit against Beats

Bose and Beats are engaged in a very public battle as both headphone makers vie for exposure, but their feud won’t be carrying over into courtrooms. Bose has agreed to dismiss a patent infringement lawsuit it filed against Beats back in July. The company originally claimed Beats had wrongfully stolen ideas covered by its patents on noise cancellation technology.

Bose Corp. and Apple Inc.’s Beats Electronics settled a patent dispute over noise-canceling headphones. Bose and Beats in joint filings told a U.S. court in Delaware they’ve settled their claims, and asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to terminate its investigation. Bose in July had petitioned the trade agency to block imports of Beats Studio and Beats Studio Wireless headphones over claims the company used its inventions without paying. Its lawsuit in Wilmington, Delaware, made the same claims. In May, Apple agreed to pay $3 billion to buy headphones and streaming-music service Beats in the company’s biggest-ever purchase.
