The OnePlus One was definitely one of the most surprising success stories in the smartphone industry last year, but when you consider the incredibly affordable price of the device and its solid specs, it shouldn’t really be surprising at all. The question is, will OnePlus be able to do the same thing this year? The company seems to believe that it’s up to the task, and has teased a few “surprises” for the One’s successor.
High-end specs and a low entry price were a killer combination for one of the most talked about Android handsets of last year, and the company behind it is already teasing at CES 2015 a still-surprising sequel for this year. Talking to Android Headlines in an extensive interview about its plans, OnePlus, the maker of the OnePlus One, revealed the second-generation smartphone might be launching at some point this summer. “Internally, we’ve changed the release windows 4 or 5 times. But we’re planning to have it available in Q2 or Q3,” OnePlus’ Carl Pei said. “There’s a lot more expectations on us this time, a lot more pressure.” The exec did not reveal any specifics about the handset, but did say the One Plus Two will still surprise people, at least when it comes to size. “We’ve actually changed the display size several times as well. The final product will surprise people,” Pei said, when asked whether the phone will actually be smaller than its predecessor.
