How an iOS 8 bug caused Twitter to lose more than 4 million active users

While Twitter’s quarterly earnings were impressive, its user growth was less so. CEO Dick Costolo blamed this on a bug in iOS 8 that caused to company to lose more than four million monthly active users but stressed that this had no effect on the company’s relationship with Apple. 

Twitter said Thursday that its lower-than-expected number of monthly active users (MAUs) was caused by a “bug” in Apple’s iOS 8. Announcing fourth-quarter earnings, the company attempted to explain why its current level of 288 million monthly active users fell short of an expected 292 million.
