Amazon has acquired Denver-based Intern of Things startup 2lemetry

Amazon has confirmed its acquisition of 2lemetry, a Denver-based startup that develops solutions for the Internet of Things as well as facial recognition technology and retail beacon services. While neither company has disclosed any details about the acquisition deal, Amazon has assured 2lemetry’s current customers that nothing will change about the service that they’re receiving. 

Amazon said this week that it has acquired Denver-based startup 2lemetry, a developer of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, retail beacon services, and facial recognition technology. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and neither Amazon nor 2lemetry were elaborating on many details as of Friday. “We can confirm that Amazon has acquired 2lemetry, and we look forward to continuing to support 2lemetry customers,” an Amazon spokesperson said in an email. TechCrunch first reported the acquisition and offered some details about 2lemetry’s business. The early thought is that Amazon is looking to expand its IoT capabilities with the deal—one of 2lemetry’s more recent projects is its Kinesis platform, introduced in 2013, used to “process and analyse high-volume data streams from any number of sources and in real time,” according to TechCrunch.
