Apple may use Series 7000 aluminum alloy to avoid another Bendgate

It looks like Apple really doesn’t want another Bendgate controversy with the next iPhone, and it’s willing to use a tougher aluminium alloy to avoid it. According to reports from Taiwan, the company is considering using Series 7000 aluminum alloy, which is what the Apple Watch Sport is made of, on the next iPhone, which is “60% stronger than most aluminum.”

It looks like Apple has taken all those photos of bent iPhone 6 Plus models to heart. Via MacRumors, Taiwan’s Economic Daily News is reporting that Apple will likely use Series 7000 aluminum alloy as the build material for its upcoming iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices. This is the same alloy that Apple is using for the Apple Watch Sport, in case you didn’t know. Apple has said in the past that the alloy is “60% stronger than most aluminum, and one-third the density of stainless steel” and that it’s “just as light” as the alloy that it’s traditionally used for its iPhones and iPads. It’s not too surprising that Apple will take technology it developed for the Apple Watch and incorporate it into the iPhone, since we already know that Apple is planning on incorporating the Apple Watch’s Force Touch input technology into future iPhones.
