Microsoft is one step closer to unifying the Windows app store

More so than anything, the new Microsoft is all about the unification of Windows a breaking down cross-platform barriers. In order to achieve this, the company needs to have universal apps that work across all devices, which itself eliminates the need for multiple app stores. This vision is slowly but surely starting to take shape, and Microsoft’s most recent Windows 10 Technical Preview update brings us one step closer to complete unification.  

Universal apps are a huge part of Microsoft’s strategy with Windows 10. Similarly, the Redmond-based company is also working to host all of its wares under a single unified Windows Store. Its efforts have been slowly coming together as of late and starting today, those using the latest builds of the Windows 10 Technical Preview will see a Movies & TV category in the current Store Beta. Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc notes that the new page is rolling out over the course of the next 24 hours. Once visible, Windows Insiders will be able to browse and search for videos, rent or purchase movies and television shows and play them in the new Video Preview app. All media will be accessible from other Windows devices as well as on the Xbox One. A Music page will be added to the Store Beta in the coming weeks.
