Twitter’s newest update could make it even more like Facebook

Twitter is changing the “Quote Tweet” button in a very big way. Pulling from similar social networks such as China’s Weibo, Twitter is now allowing users to embed other people’s tweets within their own tweets without cutting into the 140-character limit. How this will effect Twitter is unknown but looking at how it affects Weibo shows a much more Facebook-like experience. 

Twitter on Monday started rolling out an improved quote tweet feature to iPhone and Web users. Announcing the upgraded feature via a tweet, the micro-blogging site noted that it will come to Android users soon. “Say more with revamped quote tweet! Rolling out on iPhone and web, coming soon to Android,” reads the tweet. With the revamped quote tweet feature, Twitter now essentially embeds the tweet below the text, instead of just quoting it as text. Further, users will now be able to add additional 116 characters along with the 140 characters of quoted tweet. With this, Twitter acknowledged and fixed users’ complaints about the limited characters while quoting tweets. The company recently revamped the profile layout for its Android and iPhone app with ‘bigger photos’ layout and more.
