Amazon is making Amazon Prime more open for merchants

In order for a merchant to sell their products with the Amazon Prime sticker that buyers always look for, they need to store their products in Amazon’s own warehouses, which means that Amazon is the one that sees the product to delivery. That’s going to change in the near future, as Amazon is working on a way for merchants to ship their products to you directly while still having the Amazon Prime sticker, which means it’ll get to you faster.

If you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber, you might soon notice a number of other third-party merchants getting the coveted Amazon Prime sticker. More importantly, you might also notice that a number of items that weren’t eligible for the free two-day-shipping service might now get delivered to your house much faster. On the back end, Amazon is allegedly working on a plan that would allow some third-party merchants to ship items to Amazon Prime buyers directly. Right now, merchants who want their items to be eligible for Amazon Prime have to first ship their goods to Amazon’s warehouses. Amazon then handles the final fulfillment, not the merchant, which allows the retail giant to increase the efficiency of the shipping process when buyers order multiple things at once. This also gives Amazon the most control over the promises it makes as part of Amazon Prime: Free, two-day shipping for items, as well as cheaper overnight shipping or, in some cases, same-day shipping.
