From Europe to Australia, New York to California, solar power is becoming more of a common source for energy. The benefits of renewable energy are many but the drawback has always been financial; it’s simply too expensive to expect solar power to be the bulk provider of worldwide energy for now… or is it? If Tesla’s Elon Musk has his way, one of his other companies, Solar City, will be providing affordable solar power to everyone, everywhere.
Before we get too caught up in the man behind the power, it’s important to take a look at the technology that generates the power… solar power, that is. Unlike his Tesla vehicles that are reserved for the elite, the “Tesla Powerwall” is designed to be affordable and ready for mass production. They’re less than half the cost of most comparable solar-charged batteries at $3500 and have the capacity to make them very useful, particularly in the third-world. Don’t let that make you think it won’t be popular in more affluent areas, though. It’s built to accommodate both sides of the spectrum and everywhere in between.
