Leak: The Huawei-manufactured Nexus will be a massive powerhouse

While little in the way of official information has been released on this year’s Nexus smartphones, well-known leaker Evan Blass has revealed that the Huawei-manufactured Nexus will be launching in the fourth quarter of the year. On top of that, Blass claims that the device will come with a 5.7-inch QHD display and a custom Snapdragon 820 chip. Naturally the premium smartphone will feature a metal frame and equally as unsurprising is the fingerprint sensor.

Google has thus far partnered with Samsung, HTC, LG and Motorola to create Nexus phones, and it looks like the search giant may be collaborating with Chinese vendor Huawei over the next Nexus. Adding weight to the reports we’ve seen in the past couple days, a tweet from serial leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) suggests that a Huawei-manufactured Nexus will be launching in the fourth quarter. What’s more, Blass says it’ll come with a 5.7-inch QHD display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC with custom Kyro cores, metal body and a fingerprint scanner. The presence of a fingerprint scanner isn’t surprising given Android M’s native support for the technology. And a Snapdragon 820-powered Nexus would lay the foundation for more 820-based Android phones in the coming year. While this potential Huawei-made Nexus sounds intriguing — particularly with premium construction, a high-res screen and an all-new processor — we’re still a few months out from the usual timeframe for Nexus launches.
