Samsung devices won’t get Android 6.0 until next year

Now that the next version of Android has been officially announced, the question is which devices will be receiving the update. Unfortunately, it looks like owners of Samsung smartphones and tablets won’t be getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow until next year, and even then, not every device qualifies for an update.

Google has officially announced its next-generation Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. Samsung has also revealed which smartphones and tablets will get the update and the new features users can expect. Apple unveiled iOS 9 at WWDC 2015 in June and gave the world its first look at its latest and greatest mobile OS. The company focused on providing major enhancements to performance and battery life, which it claims will extend battery life on iPhones by one hour. In addition, the new “Low Power Mode” feature will add up to three additional hours. iOS 9 is currently in beta testing and will be released in September alongside the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Apple isn’t the only smartphone company releasing a major update to its mobile OS. Google laid its cards out on the table when it gave Android fans and developers a preview of Android M at Google I/O in May. The company just confirmed that Android M will officially be released as Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is expected to make its way to smartphones and tablets in the fall.
