Snapchat won’t eat up all your data anymore

If there’s one complaint that everyone has about Snapchat, it’s that the app can eat up a LOT of data. When you receive a new snap, not only does Snapchat notify you that you’ve received it, it also automatically downloads it so that you can view the snap as soon as you open up the app, which can be a problem when you’re using limited mobile data. That’s why the company has released a new feature called “Travel Mode” that prevents automatic downloads while still notifying you that you have a new snap.

Snapchat on Monday released a new update that will prevent the app from using too much data. The feature, called “Travel Mode,” turns off snaps from automatically downloading when you’re on cellular data. This means that stuff rom Snapchat Stories or Discovery won’t load automatically. Instead, users will have to tap a snap for it to load. This means it will take longer for some snaps to play but it also means you won’t be surprised by a data bill that goes into the stratosphere. To access the new feature, go to the Settings in Snapchat and enable Travel Mode. Another new feature in the update brings more emoji support to Snapchat. Using a new feature called Sticker Picker, you can add emoji all over your snaps. In the past, users were limited to putting emoji on a text line. And as The Verge noticed, you can also export your Snapcode as a video file. This is awesome because it means you can basically save that file for re-posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Vine – which will make it easy for other people to find and add your customized Snapcode from other network.
