Nintendo has already sold seven million Amiibos in the United States

Nintendo’s hardware sales over the past few years have been far from impressive, but one area where the company is enjoying a lot of success if Amiibos. The company’s coveted toys have been selling so well that it’s actually pretty hard to get your hands on one nowadays. According to new data from the NPD Group, Nintendo has sold more than seven million Amiibos in the United States alone, and it hasn’t even been a year since their release.

We all know that Nintendo’s Amiibos fly off the shelves instantaneously, with fans clamoring for rare figurines that instantly become unavailable. Nintendo has provided new data from the NPD Group, which tracks the video game retail business in the U.S. We now know that Nintendo has sold 7 million Amiibo toys in the U.S. since their introduction in November. There have been several series of Amiibo figurines so far, including an expansive (and ongoing) Smash Bros. series, a Super Mario series, and a Splatoon series of Amiibo figurines, as well as stuffed Yarn Yoshi Amiibos. Super Mario 30th anniversary Amiibos were just released; an Animal Crossing line of the toys is still forthcoming. We already knew that Amiibo sales had helped push Nintendo to first-quarter profits for its latest fiscal year. There’s a lot of untapped potential in the line of toys so far; you can read more about that in this blog post from Gamasutra editor Christian Nutt, who pondered the promise of Amiibos at their launch.
