BlackBerry is confident that it still has a future in the mobile market

Jon Chen, the CEO of BlackBerry, has made it clear that his company isn’t afraid to exit the handset business if it can’t start making a profit soon, any many people have assumed that the success of the BlackBerry PRIV will determine if we see anymore BlackBerry hardware or not. Chen recently dismissed those assumptions, saying that BlackBerry actually has a number of devices on the way, but admitted that the PRIV being successful would allow BlackBerry to rebuild its handset business.

If you read the reports, the success of BlackBerry Priv will determine whether or not BlackBerry remains in the hardware business. But not according to CEO John Chen, who says there’s a whole range of produces to come from the Canadian company. In an interview with Fox Business ahead of the Priv’s official debut in the U.S., Chen dismissed the notion that Priv is the company’s “Hail Mary,” and says BlackBerry has been working on this device for a couple of years. He also confirmed that Priv would be coming to more U.S. carriers later. Chen admitted that when it comes to the future of BlackBerry’s hardware business, he will “let the market tell me.” He also insists, however, that he will “never give up the phone business,” and that BlackBerry has “a range of products” on the way after Priv. Chen concluded that if Priv is successful, BlackBerry will be able to “rebuild” its smartphone business and regain lost market share.
