Huawei’s new tech can charge your battery to 50% in five minutes

If you thought Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology was impressive, wait until you see what Huawei has. Further proving that the Chinese company may be an even bigger threat to Qualcomm’s chipset market dominance than Samsung, Huawei recently showed off new charging technology that allows users to charge their smartphone to around 50% in a mere five minutes, which is ten times faster than standard charging.

Huawei has revealed a new generation of quick charging technology during the 56th Battery Symposium that is taking place in Japan. With the use of this new technology, Huawei is able to achieve charging speeds of around 10 times as fast as a standard charger, giving you 50 percent battery in just a few minutes. During a demo, Huawei showed a 3000mAh battery charging to 48 percent in just five minutes, and a 600mAh battery getting 68 percent charge in two minutes. Here’s how Huawei was able to do it: “According to Huawei, the company bonded heteroatoms to the molecule of graphite in anode, which could be a catalyst for the capture and transmission of lithium through carbon bonds. Huawei stated that the heteroatoms increase the charging speed of batteries without decreasing energy density or battery life.”
