Samsung’s new flip phone looks a lot like the Galaxy S6

This may be almost incomprehensible to some of us in the West, but flip phones are actually pretty popular in other parts of the world, particularly in East Asia. That’s why Samsung still releases the occasional new flip phone in the region, the latest of which is 3.9-inch smart flip phone that runs on Android 5.1.1. The specs are actually pretty damn impressive, with 3GB of RAM and an Exynos 7420 processor, but the downside is that there’s pretty much no way it’s going to be released in the United States.

Samsung really improved its design game this year, starting with the Galaxy S6. Now the company could be bringing that same metal and glass style to its flip phone series. A recent filing with China’s TENAA reveals a sleek new Samsung flip phone. It packs a pair of 3.9-inch displays, one on the outside and a second inside. It also features what looks like a pretty powerful 16-megapixel rear camera and a physical T9 keypad. The design definitely borrows a bit of inspiration from the Galaxy S6, but also adds an industrial look with visible screws and a large hinge. Samsung’s certification also reveals a list of specs for the device, including a 1280 x 768-pixel resolution on both screens. It sports a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, a powerful 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Overall it sounds like a pretty great device, assuming you don’t mind swapping one big display for two smaller ones. Unfortunately the new flip phone almost certainly won’t be available in the U.S.
