You might finally be able to pre-order the Oculus Rift in a few weeks

It’s funny how we’ve been talking about the Oculus Rift for a few years now, during which time it’s more or less become the face of the virtual reality market, and yet a commercial version of the headset hasn’t even been released. It’s not like it’s in development hell, since the developers made it clear that it wouldn’t be hitting the market for a while, but the wait is about to come to an end, as Oculus VR has confirmed that the Rift is on track for a Q1 2016 release, and pre-orders will open up shortly after the new year.

If you’ve been waiting for Oculus Rift pre-orders to open up, your wait may soon come to an end. Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey took to Twitter to share encouraging news on the Oculus Rift’s launch. The virtual reality headset is “on-target” for a Q1 2016 launch and pre-orders are expected to come “soon after the new year.” Luckey followed that up with another tweet, assuring prospective buyers to not stress over the holiday as Oculus VR will give fair warning before launching pre-orders. Recently, Oculus sweetened the deal on pre-orders for Rift by offering EVE Valkyrie, the first-person space dogfighting game from the makers of EVE Online, with Oculus Rift at launch. In related news, Rock Band VR was announced at the Game Awards. Harmonix was one of many developers Oculus announced a partnership with at E3. Rock Band VR is expected to release sometime in 2016. Luckey did not mention the Oculus Touch controllers would also be available for pre-order with the Oculus Rift.
