A bunch of information on the Galaxy S7 has been leaked

Samsung may have nailed the design of the Galaxy S6, but the hardware and software failed to impress users enough to generate as many sales as the company had expected. Things will be different with the Galaxy S7, however, as Samsung will be using the same design as the Galaxy S6 so that it can focus all of its attention on improving the other aspects of the smartphone. Apparently, this includes equipping the Galaxy S7 with a microSD slot and some dust and water-resistant protection. The smartphone’s battery will also be receiving a significant boost from 2,500mAh to 3,000mAh.

With the rumoured release date of the Samsung Galaxy S7 on the horizon, a new leak suggests that Samsung’s first 2016 flagships will be getting a series of features noticeably missing from its predecessor. According to Evan Blass at VentureBeat, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will come with microSD slots, sizeable batteries and IP67-rated dust and water resistance. The Galaxy S6 marked a dramatic design departure from the Galaxy S5, but while the aesthetic change in direction was widely welcomed, two elements that weren’t carried from the S5 were waterproofing and the inclusion of expandable storage. This news suggests that Samsung intends to swivel focus back on storage and durability. While the S6 and S6 Edge had 2,500mAh and 2,600mAh batteries respectively, the S7 will allegedly upgrade to 3,000mAh while the S7 Edge will get 3,600mAh. As for storage, Blass cites 32GB and 64GB options but, interestingly, states that the S7 will feature microSD slots for cards of up to 200GB. Citing “a person briefed on the company’s plans”, Blass also claims that the standard S7 will measure in at 5.1in while the S7 Edge will be 5.5in in size, and that both phones will have 12-megapixel primary cameras. As has been heavily rumoured elsewhere, Blass pins the announcement of the Galaxy S7 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in late February, with a rollout in March.
