You can’t have Morgan Freeman narrate your life, unfortunately, but you can still have him give you directions if you’re a Waze user. The Google-owned, crowd-sourced navigation app announced on Monday that Morgan Freeman has joined the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, and Stephen Colbert by teaming up with Waze to allow the app’s users to receive directions using his voice. This is a small, short-term offering that’s being done to promote one of Freeman’s new films, but it’s fun nonetheless.
The voice of God could soon be giving you directions to the grocery store. Starting on Monday, users of the navigation app Waze will have the option of getting turn-by-turn directions from none other than Morgan Freeman. The celebrated actor — whose rich, authoritative voice is ubiquitous across the narration of documentaries, feature films and TV commercials as well as Hillary Clinton’s campaign— has teamed with the startup to promote his upcoming film London has Fallen. Trips directed by Freeman’s voice will be sprinkled with dramatic lines from the movie to give each drive you take the urgency of an action thriller. Quotes include: “The time has arrived, President Wazer. The world awaits your commands.”; “The American people are counting on you… to drive. Let’s go.”; and “Accident reported ahead. I’ll get a line to emergency command.” Freeman joins the likes of Kevin Hart, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stephen Colbert and other celebrities who have partnered with the fast-growing app to promote upcoming projects. As part of the deal, Waze will also be showing ads for the movie, a button to purchase tickets and directions to nearby theaters where it is showing.
