As The Facebook Turns - Winklevoss Twins Sued for Their Stake

In yet another bizarre twist in the Facebook story, now  made very public by “The Social Network” movie, a man who was partnered with the Winklevoss twins in a business venture is now suing them for a slice of their Facebook cut. Chang and the Winklevoss brothers merged the Winklevoss property, ConnectU, with Chang’s web development business. As part of the settlement with Mark Zuckerberg, the Winklevoss twins sold ConnectU to Facebook for millions of dollars, and Chang was essentially cut out of that deal. According to his complaint, he and the Winklevoss duo “expressly agreed that the litigation…

Google Zeitgeist 2010 is Out - Stats Geeks Everywhere Rejoice

The Google Zeitgeist for 2010 is out. Some of the “Fastest Rising” results are surprising, some are expected. The iPad, for example, taking the crown as the most searched item makes complete sense, since people were not only searching for Apple’s newest little slice of heaven, but looking for apps and instructions once they got it home. The next one down the list, ChatRoulette, was fun to contemplate. How many people searched for it, tried it, and then quickly wiped it off their computer, never to return again? But the “Fastest Rising” category is just the start. Google has artfully arranged data…

Javascript Object Fuels Rumor of Video With Skype on Facebook

While Tal Ater was working on his Green Any Site Facebook application, he stumbled across a javascript object called Video Chat. This object had properties that were referential to Skype’s video chat features, pointing to potential video integration between the two sites in the future. While the application wasn’t there every time Tal loaded the page, he thinks that Facebook could be “bucket testing” the feature. The object also tests for plugin functionality using the Skype SDK, which further points to a collaboration between the two popular online services. Tal has helpfully provided…

Boyfriend Uses Girlfriend's Favorite Website to Propose To Her

Scott’s girlfriend, Leslie, was a power user of the popular Mom community site CafeMom. Scott sought to enlist their help in crafting his proposal to her through their popular Achievement Awards program. He sent Cafe Mom the following e-mail to initiate the proceedings: “I have a dilemma, and I was hoping your staff might be willing to accommodate a unique request for a one-of-a-kind feature. My girlfriend is a regular user of your site, spending hours of her time every day on the Answers section. I recently purchased a ring, and I am planning to propose to her. Who Buys In-Game Property for $335,000? This Guy.

Think you’re a hardcore gamer? It can be argued that nobody is more hardcore than the guy who spends enough for a decently sized house – on a video game. Yan Panasjuk, a software engineer living in Boston, recently paid $335,000 real world dollars for a number of properties in the Entropia online gaming universe, including the popular destination Club Neverdie. This busts the previous record held, also within the same game, for a $330,000 purchase of the Crystal Palace Space Station. Panasjuk intends to maximize his investment, much like a real-world investor, by devoting his time and energy…

Dirpy Lets You Turn Your Favourite YouTube Videos Into MP3

Dirpy Lets You Turn Your Favourite YouTube Videos Into MP3's

Want the dubstep version of “Because I Backtraced It” on your iPod? This dream has come true with Dirpy, a cheeky little app now in Beta that lets you turn your fave YouTube or Google videos into lovely ear candy. It only works with Google and Youtube’s API’s, but that is more than enough for most people to get their fix. Needless to say, the audio quality on these videos is generally not the best, so the resulting MP3′s may be equally not as awesome. Unless you are a discerning audiophile, you’ll be less concerned about tonal quality and more concerned with your favourite remixes becoming magically…

Facebook Isn't Sharing Their Toys; Google Bars User Data From Facebook

Starting very soon, you won’t be able to import all of your Gmail contacts in one shot into your Facebook account. Looks like Google is a little miffed at Facebook for not making tools available to let the information flow both ways; Google wants the ability to import Facebook friends and use other Facebook data as it wants to, like Facebook can now use Google’s data. Facebook will not be the only company to get the axe from the mighty Google; any company that does not let information flow both ways will be denied access to account information. “We have decided to change our approach slightly to reflect…
