Palm Seeks Chinese Suitor As It Goes On Sale - Report

Following yesterday’s reports suggesting Palm has put itself up for sale comes more news on the company’s attempt to find a new friend. Chinea’s Huawei Technologies has been approached by an investment bank on behalf of Palm for preliminary acquisition talks, but discussions have not yet moved forward. Huawei Technologies isn’t a household name, but it has become the world’s second-biggest telecoms equipment company after Ericsson. And that lack of a household name could be the benefit it gains from buying a well-known brand such as Palm. One of the pioneers in PDA and smartphone tech,…

It is made using approximately 210 (count ‘em) black keyboard keys per bag and ships inside a week. Beyond the clutch bag, Neatorama also offers…

Apple Claims To Own The Word

Apple Claims To Own The Word 'Pad'

Apparently, Apple boss Steve Jobs now claims his company owns the trademark on the word ‘Pad’. This news follows Apple’s move last week to demand app developer Chris Ostmo remove the word ‘Pad’ from the name of his two products, journalPad and journalPad Bible Edition. Ostmo received a terse email from the App Store team telling him to make these changes. The upset developer then wrote a personal plea to Jobs asking for clarification as to the policy, particularly as so many developers had originally shoved a ‘Pad’ suffix into their App names in advance of the iPad launch…he didn’t…

Surprise: Apple Plays Opera Mini For iPhone (With Video)

In a big surprise for iPhone users in search of choice, Apple has approved the third-party Opera Mini app for the iPhone. This version of Opera Mini has been developed specifically for the iPhone and is impressively fast. This is because it compresses data by up to 90 percent before fetching that data to the device, which has the effect of greatly accelerating page load speed (that’s particularly good if you’re on a slower EDGE network). It took Apple – known to reject apps which emulate those it provides – just three weeks to approve Opera Mini for the iPhone. The free Safari replacement is now available…

Nokia Is Developing An iPad-Killer - Report

The iPad may be grabbing headlines everywhere today – it’s hard to find anyone talking about something else – but Apple’s made a few enemies on its way here, and now Nokia plans its own iPad killer, set to ship this fall. Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar says Nokia is working with suppliers and design manufacturers on a touch-screen tablet. “Nokia hasn’t fielded any breakaway products in years,” he said as reported by The Street. “This is a new window, and Nokia had better be at the starting gate if and when the product category takes off,” he said….

Even if you’re uncertain where you stand in the green debate, rising electricity bills alone should be enough to get you interested in Fujitsu Lab’s latest product, a power consumption monitoring power strip. We’re learning that the phones are set to be introduced next week, though they won’t be called Pink. They are being described as robust QWERTY-enabled messaging devices with social networking features that will be aimed at younger users. Expect them to be called Turtle and Pure. We think the two Project Pink phones will make use of some of the technologies Microsoft acquired when it got its claws on Sidekick manufacturer, Danger. Reuters tells…

Apple iPad Is Already Jailbroken

Apple iPad Is Already Jailbroken

The Apple iPad has been jailbroken according to notorious hacker, MuscleNerd, who published this video showing the achievement. A member of the infamous iPhone Dev Team, the developer took just one day to crack Apple security, which he managed through use of a variant of the existing iPhone OS 3.1.3 jailbreak. Most jailbreaks use vulnerabilities either in Safari or the OS itself to grant unrestricted access, this is thought to have been the M.O. for this break-in. What’s it mean? For most of us, not too much, but if you want to install software other than that available from the App Store then…

iTunes Makes Facebook Connect Connection

iTunes Makes Facebook Connect Connection

iTunes keeps cosying-up to Facebook, the world’s largest social network. Now it seems Apple plans to support Facebook Connect, enabling a wave of networking opportunities for music fans. Apple has been promoting iTunes through Facebook for ages. Its UK iTunes Festival last year offered free tickets, music and other promotions to customers via Facebook, and in the US the iTunes team have been developing its own Facebook presence, adding polls, featured items and more. Integration between Facebook and iTunes already lets you share songs on iTunes via Facebook, though this only lets you…
