GetJar researchers reckon the CD is a dead format and smartphone applications are the new rock and roll, predicting the dollar value of app sales made in 2012 will be far greater than that of CDs. They say mobile apps will generate $17.5 billion of revenues by 2012. Following Monday’s look at Windows Phone 7, Microsoft has released emulation software for those who want to explore the new interface of the OS. The emulator is available at the Microsoft Download center and includes emulation software alongside games and app development and Silverlight code. Twitter has announced a new plan to become as pervasive as the Web itself, opening up its @anywhere tech which aims to integrate Twitter into the very fabric of the ‘Net. @anywhere will let people using websites to follow new users or share media directly from the page. It is similar to Facebook Connect in that users will be able to log into websites using their Twitter ID. “Imagine being able to follow a New York Times journalist directly from her byline, tweet about a video without leaving YouTube, and discover new Twitter accounts while visiting the Yahoo home page,” Twitter said on its blog….

PayPal has upgraded its iPhone application introducing new features including the capacity to pass money to another simply by bumping smartphones together. The new feature marshals tech from start-up Bump Technologies.
