One-Screen Nintendo DS Concept At Least Twice as Sexy as Real DS

One-Screen Nintendo DS Concept At Least Twice as Sexy as Real DS

Now that we finally have confirmation a new Nintendo DS is on the way – with 3D no less! – we’re also free to wonder what the new device might look like. And as mind-blowingly successful as Nintendo products have been, they’ve never exactly exuded sexiness. Well, designer Mario Troise has a solution for old Ninty with this drop-dead gorgeous rendering of a possible DS that makes the line between the handheld’s eponymous dual screens invisible. Sure, it’s got a decidedly ‘Macbook feel’ to it – but is that really a bad thing? As sleek as the concept is, it also contains some great ideas, like a 3D projecting…

Beat Feet Turns Your Shoes Into Synthesizer

Beat Feet Turns Your Shoes Into Synthesizer

Alright, ‘fess up – sometimes, when you’re walking down the street late at night, you wish that you could tap your shoes to make music. It’s alright, don’t be shy – secretly, everybody who’s ever seen the video for “Billie Jean” wishes that. Thankfully, a trio of people have deigned to make your wish your come true with Beat Feet, a system that turns an ordinary pair of tap shoes into a synthesizer. The contraption works by attaching pressure sensors to a pair of shoes, which relay their information to a complex bit of software via a module that the team chose to put on a rather spiffy hat – which, in the…

Forget the iPad. Here

Forget the iPad. Here's Why We Still Need eInk eReaders.

In light of the coming arrival of Apple’s magic tablet, you might wonder what reason anyone would have left for an eReader. It’s tough to imagine anyone preferring their dull, greyscale screens – that Nicholas Baker once called a “four-by-five window onto an overcast afternoon” – to the glossy LCD of an iPad. After all, when you think of the comparisons between them, it isn’t just the screen that makes the iPad looks so impressive next to an Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader. The iPad is obviously full-color and is capable of not only showing video but playing music too. It surfs the web, it downloads apps,…

Foursquare Integration One More Reason Not to Laugh at Bing

With the data now integrated into Bing Maps, head to the search site and you’ll be able to see all the tips Foursquare users have left mapped out for you to peruse,…

New GM-Segway Concept Created Because People Didn't Look Silly Enough on Segways

You know, you really gotta’ admire the idea behind the Segway: create an efficient, easy way for people in cities to get around that requires no fossil fuels and produces no pollution. Smart, right? But what the designers missed, however, was that people – especially in North America – really don’t want look stupid as they move around town….

Bang and Olufsen: Will This Booze and This Car Make You Forget This TV

Bang and Olufsen: Will This Booze and This Car Make You Forget This TV's Ridiculous Price Tag?

When a TV manufacturer enlists Dom Perignon and Aston Martin to help promote their new set, you can be sure of at least one thing: you’re gonna’ need to drink a lot when you see the price tag. But if German-based company Bang & Olufsen are known for anything, it’s sticker-shock. Pong Belt Holds Up Your Pants, Wards Off Romance

Pong Belt Holds Up Your Pants, Wards Off Romance

Ah Pong – for many among us, it was the game that started a lifelong trend of sitting in dark basements and avoiding human contact in favor of electronic entertainment. And now, for those rare times you’re actually wearing pants, you can have a belt that helps you relive those memories and aids others in finding reason to make fun of you. Created by Bare Tree, the Pong belt displays the iconic game on its 1.3″ × 1.75″ buckle and uses a tough cotton webbing for its material. If Pong isn’t quite geeky enough, you can also get one with the dreaded Windows Blue Screen of Death. Of course, wearing that belt…

How Do You Destroy the Cellphone Industry? With a $1 iPhone App

How Do You Destroy the Cellphone Industry? With a $1 iPhone App

In much the same way everyone love colonoscopies, we all love our cellphone carriers. With gouging, hidden fees, ridiculous charges for texting and more, companies like AT&T and Verizon inspire hate like few others. But hope is on the way, and all it takes (for now) is an iPhone, a little Wi-Fi and a simple $1 app. Line2 is an communication app modeled after the iPhone’s own phone software that, as the name suggests, adds a second line with its own phone number to your Apple smartphone. Well-suited to small businesses, the service by company Toktumi  also boasts features like Voicemail and…

Mobile Apps Don

Mobile Apps Don't Need A Location War. What We Need is Open Data.

Amid the unending din of posts, tweets and articles about South by Southwest Interactive, one thing became clear: mobile location apps are the next big thing. In one corner was Austin-based Gowalla, fighting on its own home turf. In the other was Foursquare, the NYC-based startup that many associate with the ‘check-in’ craze. But regardless of who wins, unless services like these open up their data, we all lose….

Avatar Blu-Ray/DVD to be released three times. Yeah, you read that right.

In what we can only assume is a move designed to make James Cameron both the richest and most evil man on Earth, today we learned that Fox is going to release the home version of ‘the most popular movie EVAH’ three times. Yep. Three separate times. The first, coming to North America on April 22nd, will be a bare-bones 2-D disc that will only feature the movie. Fox claims – with a straight face, mind you – that this was done both to ensure the best quality picture and sound, but also to coincide with Earth Day….
