Jailbreaking a Requirement For Experiencing WiFi On Your iPhone or iPad

It looks like users will have to be willing to jailbreak their iPhones in order to experience the benefits of the WiFi Application. This really has come at no surprise, as it approaches boundaries that Apple is unwilling to cross. Many apps are rejected everyday but this one really deserves some special mention. The application would work in tandem with a helper app on your Mac and enable iTunes so that your iPhone or iPad could sync wirelessly over the local network. Apple representatives told the creator, while the app does not break any actually rules in  Apple’s Terms and Service agreement…

Adobe Attempts Lightroom and other Apps for the iPad Despite Concerns

A new effort has Adobe attempting to bring imaging software, such as Lightroom, to the iPad and other tablet computers despite the bad blood between them and Apple. The project team leader is worried about the control Apple keeps over its software. The existence of Lightroom on the iPad could convince many photographers to make an investment in the tablet PC due to its mobility, but will Apple let Lightroom for the iPad ship? Lately, Apple has voiced its beef against Adobe’s Flash but nothing has ever been explicitly said about the Lightroom software, despite it being competition for Apple’s…

Hulu Improves Its Website But Continues With Flash

Hulu Improves Its Website But Continues With Flash

Hulu, unfortunately, will not be offering an HTML5 player. Instead the website, offering commercial-supported streaming video, has decided to stick with the current Flash players… at least for the time being. Although the website promises to monitor the progress of developments made on HTML5, it’s VP says “as of now it doesn’t meet all of our customer’s needs.” This news has killed the rumor that the company was working on a site that would utilize HTML5 instead of Flash. This rumor comes from a report last August that claimed Hulu was only months away from developing a TV show watching…

I think it is safe to say that it was everyone has had at least one point in their lives where they dreamt of escaping the gravity of this world and spending some time weightless in space. Well, Space Adventures is going to be offering space flights at half the price of it’s competitors allowing dreamers to visit space for just over $100,000. The new price point has been achieved by the company teaming up with Armadillo Aerospace, which will be developing rockets for the journeys. Their approach is simple: strap you in, aim towards the sky, shoot you up 62 miles in a rocket, and turn the engines off allowing…

Virtual Reality Puts Men in Women

Virtual Reality Puts Men in Women's Bodies

Are virtual sex changes on the horizon? It’s doubtful, but scientists have seemingly taken their first step towards such a thing recently when they used virtual reality to study how visually attached we are to our bodies and specifically our gender. Researchers at the University of Barcelona in Spain placed 24 men in a virtual world where they became, for a short time, women. Of course, in reality nothing changed for the men other than the fact that they were now wearing a virtual reality headset. Depending on the subject, what they saw was a first-person perspective from a woman’s body or a…

Limewire Loses: Another Victory for RIAA Against File Sharing

Limewire Loses: Another Victory for RIAA Against File Sharing

People may have a harder time downloading their crappy new wave electro-pop as sung by androgynous female singers now that LimeWire, the popular P2P platform, has lost the case against US record labels for copyright infringement. This marks another victory won by record labels against online file-sharing. On Tuesday, in a major court case, the federal court ruled against LimeWire finding the owners of the peer-to-peer program personally liable to copyright infringement. The case was brought forth by the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA), representing four major US labels,…

Adobe Loves Apple... erm, maybe not

Adobe Loves Apple... erm, maybe not

The ongoing feud between Apple and Adobe has received a new twist today as Adobe’s founders have posted an open letter, aptly named “thoughts on openness” – declaring their love for Apple, all the while attacking Apple’s policies that are taking away freedom of choice. The feud began after Steve Jobs, Apple’s founder, posted his thoughts on Flash and why we will never see it on an iPhone or iPad. The post basically pointed out that Flash remains completely controlled by Adobe, it is not needed on the web anymore and that Flash is a virus magnet. You can see the original post by Jobs here….

The Next-Gen iPhone Cost Prediction

The Next-Gen iPhone Cost Prediction

According to analysts, the next-generation iPhone 4 could have a bill of materials costing between $169 to $175. That’s a pretty significant increase from the $156 bill of material cost to manufacture the current iPhone 3GS. These figures are based on estimates of models using 16GB of memory. The cost could get even higher for the 64GB model, estimated at around $250. Apple’s iPhone has been receiving much competition from Google’s Android software and this higher cost of the next generation may pose some trouble for Apple, as they will be entering the field with a gadget much more expensive…

Robot Car Gains Extreme Maneuverability, Drives Itself

Robot Car Gains Extreme Maneuverability, Drives Itself

A robot car on its own is pretty cool, but couple that with the ability to learn new maneuvers and perform just as good if not better than James Bond; and you have something pretty damn awesome. Meet Junior, created by Stanford University, the robot car that took home second place in the 2007 DARPA Grand Challenge. It has learned a few things since then, most noteworthy is it’s ability to decide to follow traditional physics models when driving or just try and repeat a past performance. And what’s cooler than pulling off a 180 degree turn into a cramped parking space? A robot car doing it. Junior…
