iPad 2's Camera to Clock In At ... 1MP? Seriously?

Ty Dunitz January 21 Apple

If you planned on making the iPad 2 your be-all, end-all imaging tool, it would appear you may be SOL. 9 to 5 Mac is reporting that the rear-facing camera on the back of the unit will be a paltry one-megapixel – which wouldn’t seem so bad until you remember the iPhone 4’s camera is five… and some older flip phones are two or three. But, if it makes you feel any better, the front-facing camera is VGA, so by comparison, 1-megapixel isn’t the worst. Just don’t throw out your digital camera just yet.

This revelation is especially odd considering it was previously said that OmniVision technologies had been handed a contract to supply 5MP sensors to Apple for this very purpose. Bizarre.

boys. this is just a descriptive string in a cocoa property list file (plist). it is subject to change anytime. you can be sure apple won’t stick with 1mp.

a rear facing camera on the ipad is a retarded idea. why would anyone want to use the ipad as an oversized camera?
a front-facing camera for facetime and skype should be enough

  • Wouldn’t be fussed by this. Would you seriously use your iPad’s camera for anything other than Facetime showing what you’re looking at/working on?

doesn’t matter everyone will still love it because it’s apple

  • Just 1 MP camera???. . . If they really want to put a rear facing camera it should e of a better quality otherwise No Use even if it is from Apple.
