Just "In Case" You Forgot Your Wallet

Just "In Case" You Forgot Your Wallet

Hot on the heels of Square, an iPhone add-on for making payments on the go, Visa has announced In2Pay, an iPhone case that contains a chip to allow users to provide pamyent on the go by swiping their iPhone. The add-on plugs into the bottom of the iPhone and allows you to insert a MicroSD card. With an app from the App Store, you can swipe your iPhone over a terminal, enter a password and voila, no need for that cumbersome credit card in your wallet. There are of course, a number of downsides. Since the iPhone currently does not support multitasking, you must open the app, wait for it to load, hold your phone…

iSpy With My iPad Eye In The Sky

iSpy With My iPad Eye In The Sky

There are two trends that the first half of 2010 will be remembered for: Apple’s iPad and privacy invasion, care of Facebook and Google. Surely the killer trend would be the one that combines them both? An iPad controlled video blimp is a wonderful thing. BreakfastNY has modified a “BlimpDuino” and added a camera and built an iPad app to control the whole shebang. You can even control the blimp by tilting the iPad, a nice touch. For some reason, the creators also built in some augmented reality, with faces of people seen through the video camera being displayed as Munny characters. No instructions…

Apple Tweaks Low End MacBook

Apple Tweaks Low End MacBook

Apple didn’t yell too loudly about this one but the low end, white Unibody MacBook got a refresh this morning. The black (or white) sheep of Apple’s laptop family got a boost this morning, with a faster CPU and built-in graphics card to match the entry level MacBook Pro and better battery life. The little white laptop that could is still missing a few crucial specs that its bigger brothers get to boast about. For an additional $200, the 13″ MacBook Pro boasts an SD Card slot, 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB and the shinier, tougher aluminum enclosure. The white MacBook is a decent performer, although it really…

Is the iPad Cannibalizing iPod Sales?

Is the iPad Cannibalizing iPod Sales?

iPod sales are declining; and with the first set of sales data from the US being released, the culprit for this drop may be Apple’s own iPad. The new research report from the NPD Group, a market researcher, shows a 17 percent drop in the year-to-year April sales of the iPod. Luckily for Apple, the iPad has not had any effect on the sales of their Mac computers, which are up at a healthy 39 percent. It should have come as no surprise for Apple that with the release of the iPad that their other products are suffering. And, in fact, iPod sales have been falling gradually since the inception of the iPhone; the…

Major Banks Give Employees Choice of iPhone or BlackBerry

Major Banks Give Employees Choice of iPhone or BlackBerry

Standard Chartered bankers are now being given a choice in which smartphone they would like to use. The moneylender is giving its corporate BlackBerry users the choice to switch over to the iPhone for their business dealings; this could be bad news for BlackBerry. “If more companies switch to the iPhone, this is of course bad news for [Research in Motion],” said Lu Chialin, an IT industry analyst at Macquarie Securities in Taipei. “However, it will take a long time for companies to do their own internal testing before deciding to change, so it will be a while before it has any effect on RIM.” The BlackBerry…

Some iPhone 4G Numbers - Can I Get a Hell Yeah?

Some iPhone 4G Numbers - Can I Get a Hell Yeah?

Alright, alright, you’ve had enough cool things to look at in the last few hours. Let’s rap for serious, real quick. The iPhone 4G has now got some official stats floating around, so here’s some straight poop on Your Next Phone. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, senior analyst for Digitimes, Foxconn will be shipping 24 million units this year (4.5 in the first half of 2010, 19.5 in the latter), starting in June. Kuo also confirmed that the 4G will feature IPS (in-plane switching) panels with FFS (fringe-field switching) technology and a 960×640 resolution – in layman’s terms, this thing is going to be…

iOf the Strom: Illustrator Rocks the iPhone

iOf the Strom: Illustrator Rocks the iPhone

That’s my second ‘i- prefix’ headline joke today. I’m on a roll. A couple of days ago I made all y’all privvy to a non-illustrator who is teaching himself to paint via the iPad. Now, check out what happens when a pro illustrator gets his hands on an iPhone. Kristofer Strom is a fellow illustrator I’d heard tell of before, but now he’s getting internet famous by vowing to draw something with his iPhone every day for ‘some time’. Like a true career artist, he readily admits his eventual procrastination and laziness. I respect that. Anyway, don’t not click here to rub your eyes all over the blog he’s using…

Gawker Vs. Apple Gets Personal

Gawker Vs. Apple Gets Personal

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has always had a penchant for replying to questions and accusations over his very public email address, but yesterday he went one step further, verbally sparring with a Gawker writer on topics such as freedom, Flash and pornography. Ryan Tate was angered by an Apple TV commercial that referred to the iPad as “revolutionary”, and immediately penned an email to Jobs. It’s not surprising that Jobs answered, but the debate continued over several emails. Tate is clearly writing out of frustration or anger, but Jobs remains cool and calm, calling Tate on misinformation and biased…

Jailbreaking a Requirement For Experiencing WiFi On Your iPhone or iPad

Jailbreaking a Requirement For Experiencing WiFi On Your iPhone or iPad

It looks like users will have to be willing to jailbreak their iPhones in order to experience the benefits of the WiFi Application. This really has come at no surprise, as it approaches boundaries that Apple is unwilling to cross. Many apps are rejected everyday but this one really deserves some special mention. The application would work in tandem with a helper app on your Mac and enable iTunes so that your iPhone or iPad could sync wirelessly over the local network. Apple representatives told the creator, while the app does not break any actually rules in  Apple’s Terms and Service agreement…

Adobe Attempts Lightroom and other Apps for the iPad Despite Concerns

Adobe Attempts Lightroom and other Apps for the iPad Despite Concerns

A new effort has Adobe attempting to bring imaging software, such as Lightroom, to the iPad and other tablet computers despite the bad blood between them and Apple. The project team leader is worried about the control Apple keeps over its software. The existence of Lightroom on the iPad could convince many photographers to make an investment in the tablet PC due to its mobility, but will Apple let Lightroom for the iPad ship? Lately, Apple has voiced its beef against Adobe’s Flash but nothing has ever been explicitly said about the Lightroom software, despite it being competition for Apple’s…
