All That Glitters Is iPad

All That Glitters Is iPad

If you’ve been following Techi for the last few hours, then you’re already aware I’m all about the iPad today. Yep, today I love it. I’m even pricing them out right now. Y’know, trying to find an iPad tailored to my exacting specifications. One that screams my name. Uh, figuratively, of course. …Wouldn’t that be creepy. Anyway, you wanna give me a hand with this? Sweet, thanks, you’re the most. Alright, so check this out, I’m kinda mulling this one over in my head. I’m kind of a ‘gold’ guy, right? I think it’s totally my color, and over at Stuart Hughes they’ve got this really nice gold iPad I’m eyeing…

Finally, A Way To Make Even Your Most Mundane Tweets Half-Dignified

Finally, A Way To Make Even Your Most Mundane Tweets Half-Dignified

Today is historic. Today was never supposed to happen, yet against all odds, it did. Today marks the first time I’ve sat back and thought to myself ‘Huh. Might be nice to have an iPad.’ Now, I catch a lot of flak as Techi’s resident Apple skeptic (he said, typing this from a Mac), but this morning, I am all smiles about That Crazy-Powerful, Magical iPad. Why, might you ask? You probably mightn’t. But either way, I’m going to show you. Here, we have Tabloids, running on the iPad. Pretty well-formatted app, right? Sexy. So it’s a news feed reader, isn’t it? Actually, it isn’t. This thing’s a goddamn Twitter…

Stylus Knob Brings Rotation to the iPhone

Stylus Knob Brings Rotation to the iPhone

Twist, turn and twist it again. That pretty much sums up this neat little invention. The people at DsLabs came up with the idea of a physical knob having the same feel of your finger when applied to the screen. The point behind the invention is to make it easier to rotate objects on the screen. Since it’s so touchscreen friendly, not only does it work for the iPhone but it also works for the iPod touch and the iPad. The stylus knob was created with the same technology that other touchscreen-friendly styluses have, except this stylus only rotates. Source: UberGizmo, DsLabs…

iPad Artist Does Some Serious Finger Painting

iPad Artist Does Some Serious Finger Painting

This one’s for the artists. Enter John Haasl, an IT guy whose hobby is fine arts. Haasl’s paintings don’t exactly revolutionize the art world, but there’s something special about them – Haasl’s painting them exclusively on the iPad. Said Haasl about his new-found pastime: “[I] only recently got into it more as Hobby using my iPad…The paintings you see done on the iPad are actually my second, third, and fourth completed paintings.” Frankly, speaking as an illustrator, that only serves to make Haasl’s work more impressive, as far as I’m concerned. Even more impressive is that without pressure…

The iPad - Now Available At... Wal-Mart?

The iPad - Now Available At... Wal-Mart?

Before you leap into your Ford Windstar and gun it for the strip mall, I should correct myself – not ‘now’, but ‘soon-ish, perhaps’. The retail goliath is expanding its electronics retail section, and apparently, it’s looking to stock the self-proclaimed ‘magical’ device on its shelves by the end of 2010. “We anticipate being able to have the iPad later this year,” said Gary Severson, senior vice president of entertainment for Wal-Mart. Now, this brings up a some questions. First of all, considering Apple has yet to announce any retail partners for the iPad, and Wal-Mart is using words like…

Adobe Loves Apple... erm, maybe not

Adobe Loves Apple... erm, maybe not

The ongoing feud between Apple and Adobe has received a new twist today as Adobe’s founders have posted an open letter, aptly named “thoughts on openness” – declaring their love for Apple, all the while attacking Apple’s policies that are taking away freedom of choice. The feud began after Steve Jobs, Apple’s founder, posted his thoughts on Flash and why we will never see it on an iPhone or iPad. The post basically pointed out that Flash remains completely controlled by Adobe, it is not needed on the web anymore and that Flash is a virus magnet. You can see the original post by Jobs here….

The Next-Gen iPhone Cost Prediction

The Next-Gen iPhone Cost Prediction

According to analysts, the next-generation iPhone 4 could have a bill of materials costing between $169 to $175. That’s a pretty significant increase from the $156 bill of material cost to manufacture the current iPhone 3GS. These figures are based on estimates of models using 16GB of memory. The cost could get even higher for the 64GB model, estimated at around $250. Apple’s iPhone has been receiving much competition from Google’s Android software and this higher cost of the next generation may pose some trouble for Apple, as they will be entering the field with a gadget much more expensive…

C-3P0 iPad Case: Cool or WTF? You Decide...

Have you been waiting for one of these? You could purchase your very own C-3PO Star Wars backpack for your iPad. (Chewbacca suit not included) If you’ve always loved Star Wars and have an iPad, it was meant to be. Not only do you have to carry his pleather limbs around in some flimsy mesh bag but he, himself opens up in the back into one holding compartment with just enough room to hold your iPad safely inside. When your not taking your rusted tin-can of a friend out on your adventures, you can reassemble him into a three foot plush toy. Why reassemble, you ask? Only to take him apart and shove him back into…

Was Apple right to dump Flash on iPhone?

Was Apple right to dump Flash on iPhone?

Fresh in from the historical inevitability department comes news of a failed Adobe Flash demo — and an all-new video clip showing what the proprietary multimedia standard can do on an Android phone. Last week’s FlashCamp Seattle saw Flash Platform evangelist Ryan Stewart demo Flash Player 10.1 on a Nexus One phone during his opening keynote. It didn’t go well, wrote blogger, Jeff Croft. Here’s what happened: On his Mac, Ryan pulled up a site called Eco Zoo. It is, seemingly, a pretty intense example of Flash development — full of 3D rendering, rich interactions, and cute little characters….

Google Android Surpasses iPhone As #2 Mobile Operating System

Google Android Surpasses iPhone As #2 Mobile Operating System

Google has topped the iPhone in the race to become the best-selling operating system in the U.S. consumer smartphone market in the first quarter. While BlackBerry devices still hold the number one spot, both the Google Android and Apple’s iPhone are not far behind. According to the research firm NDP Group, BlackBerry accounted for 36 per cent of the units sold to U.S. consumers with the Android following with 28 per cent of units sold. The iPhone, which had previously held the number two spot, fell to third place with 21 per cent. Apple fanatics do have a scapegoat to explain for this step back in…
