Video: iPad-touting Waiters Take Orders With An Apple Smile

Next time you sit down for a slap-up meal out keep an eye on the waiter – he (or she) may well take your order with an iPad. This replaces older PDA-based ordering systems, and could mean diners can even take a look at luch full-colour pictures of what they are ordering. It may even help restaurants keep an eye on the stock they have in hand. System developed by 4asoft.com. Perhaps you’ll be paying for your meal using an iPad, too. Square today introduced an iPhone credit card payment system, following last month’s introduction of a similar system for the iPhone. Via: PocketLint. Thumbnail image…

Nirvana Revenge In Bloom For iPhone

Nirvana Revenge In Bloom For iPhone

The tragic Kurt Cobain might have left us but this doesn’t mean Nirvana’s record label don’t continue to seek out new opportunities to make money from the artist’s legacy — now it seems Tapulous has inked a deal to bring a dedicated Nirvana game to the iPhone. Nirvana Revenge will feature 13 of the band’s songs in a new variant of the well-recognised Tap Tap Revenge game. Songs will include Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are and Heart Shaped Box plus some live numbers from a UK rock festival. The app should be available later this week for $4.99 via the App Store. There’s a Bluetooth…

Apple's Green Thumb Gives Other Companies Black Eyes

Apple is well known throughout the industry as being on the forefront of eco-friendly design and production. That is respectable, admirable, and all other sorts of great. But, honestly, why bother? After all, going out of your way simply to save a tree or two can’t be that worthwhile, right? Well guess what: Steve Jobs and Apple know something that others seemingly don’t. Having done something as simple as reducing the size of the boxes being shipped, Jobs noted, is already saving Apple hundreds of thousands of dollars — smaller boxes equals more efficiency in shipping, which results in not…

Mouse App for iPad: Because Multi-Touch is SO Yesterday

Mouse App for iPad: Because Multi-Touch is SO Yesterday

Anyone who’s familiar with my posts by now is probably aware I’m not a fan of the iPad. Now, let’s not get our lines crossed; Apple is The New Hotness – not to mention The Old Hotness – and Jobs is a wonderful man whom I’d gladly have a beer with. Hell, I’m even typing this post on a Mac Pro! I just haven’t really cared for the iPad up to now. At any rate, this video was a welcome surprise this morning. Seems there’s an app for jailbroken iPads now tailor-made for people like me – that is, people who wonder why Apple’s flagship device is a giant iPhone, and not more like a netbook. Well, now it’s both! BTstack Mouse…

More iPhone 4G Details Surface

More iPhone 4G Details Surface

Cupertino is leaking like a rusty sieve these days. If this video is to be believed, you are looking at the new case for the iPhone 4G. The Gizmodo iPhone episode is all over save for the legal repercussions, but at the time many people hypothesized that the lost prototype was actually one of several possible choices for final case being tested by engineers. This case is similar in shape to the iPad, with squared off edges and an aluminum back surface. Apple products tend to mimic each other as manufacturing and prototyping techniques evolve. The video doesn’t show too much, and the parts are not assembled,…

Hacker Mods His iPhone to Run Android

Hacker Mods His iPhone to Run Android

He may not be able to call anyone on his Android-iPhone hybrid, but blogger and erstwhile hacker David Wang (known more widely by his handle, planetbeing) can surf wi-fi and perform most of the other tasks associated with a smartphone with the beast that he has created. Any task that doesn’t require audio support can be performed on the Android-modded iPhone. After the modification, the Android OS can be accessed easily from the boot menu via an Android icon, allowing you to choose either the Android OS or the iPhone OS. Very handy once you do want to return your device into phone mode. Audio support…

Nokia Says iPhone 3G Infringes on Five Patents, Sues Again

Nokia Says iPhone 3G Infringes on Five Patents, Sues Again

The Nokia/Apple patent lawsuits just got a little more real today when Nokia filed a second federal patent lawsuit alleging that the iPhone 3G and 3GS infringe on five Nokia-held patents. In addition, Nokia filed the suit in Wisconsin, a state which is known to bring a conclusion to these kinds of cases in a year or less. Nokia fired the first salvo last year, alleging several patent infractions on the part of the iPhone. Apple then launched a countersuit, and the two tech cos have been in negotiations ever since to try to hash out the issue. Additionally, Nokia has filed a complaint with the US International…

Microsoft Spends 2x More than Apple on Advertising

Microsoft Spends 2x More than Apple on Advertising

Silicon Valley Insider had a funky lil’ chart to show us today; a chart that reveals that Microsoft spends twice as much on advertising as Apple. We’re betting Apple stockholders just all collectively pumped their fists in the air after finding out that fun fact. The Big Apple is still up there over other tech giants like eBay and Google in terms of actual ad spend dollars, but it looks like word of mouth does a lot of their work for them. Wave Your iPhone, Buy Your Stuff With Visa

Wave Your iPhone, Buy Your Stuff With Visa

The Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS are about to get even more useful. You’ll be able to wave your phone over a system that doesn’t require any contact to pay for your smaller purchases. Germophobes rejoice! Visa and DeviceFidelity are partnering to bring this payment system to your iPhone. The only problem we can foresee is that it isn’t just an app; it is a shell constructed specially for the iPhone 3G and 3GS that has a secure memory card that works with Visa’s app, PayWave. Will iPhone users go for it? If you’ve ever been faced with a greasy pay terminal just to get your morning coffee, you’d be tempted… Source:…

iPad May Exceed Sales Forecast Figures of 4 Million

iPad May Exceed Sales Forecast Figures of 4 Million

Apple recently announced that they hit the one million mark on sales of the iPad without the device even being out for a month. By comparison, Amazon sold one million Kindles throughout all of 2009. The new iPad 3G sold over 300,000 units over its first weekend of sale. Trefis, a community of MIT engineers and Wall Street analysts, forecast sales for the iPad at 4 Million for 2010. Now, they are forecasting that sales will likely exceed 4 million for the iPad WiFi and 3G models combined. Some of the reasons for the bump include factoring in for the holiday season and the fact that Apple will be making a…

iPad's First Spyware is Intentional. Er, what?

It was only a matter of time before the iPad started seeing spyware surface. But I, for one, sure couldn’t have guessed it’d be like this. Mobile Spy is an app (I use the term loosely – I’ll explain in a moment) that allows an individual to collect the usage data of the target device, be it an iPad, Android phone, Blackberry, or Windows Mobile device, and view it via an online account. Said James John, CEO of Retina-X, the company behind the software: “Any device that can browse the Internet or send email can lead to unauthorized activities. Before now there was no method to monitor activities of children…
