Mark Fiore was the first Web-based cartoonist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning for his “biting wit, extensive research and ability to distill complex issues.” However, Apple rejected Fiore’s iPhone application because he made fun of public figures. In a recent interview with the Nieman Journalism Lab, Fiore said that in December Apple rejected his idea for a application called NewsToons because it broke section 3.3.14 of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement. If there is one issue that the iPad has in the eyes of the artist, it is that the device lacks a stylus. Sure, there have been attempts to create a stylus using homemade materials that supposedly works well, but people want something a little more robust and fashionable to go with their sexy iPad device. A couple of people from Apple displayed the new platform in person at the Hill Holliday agency in Boston, and Ilya Vedrashko blogged the experience. Hey, remember before the iPad announcement, when an exec from McGraw-Hill let slip that the tablet device was about to launch? And there were all those rumors that Jobs and Apple got really mad and excised McGraw-Hill from the launch event? Meet Chloe. She’s the furry little Corgi who is scratching furiously and barking at the iPad. Simple conclusion: dogs aren’t giving the iPad any thumbs up. Now don’t start getting all technical and say that dogs don’t have thumbs so that would be impossible anyways – IF Chloe had the ability, her thumbs would be down. Opera, the smallest big browser that is widely acknowledged, has had two impressive feats accomplished recently. It was accepted into the App Store, after numerous failures to get in because of Apple’s restrictive policies, and earned the number-one spot on the top free applications across the boards on the App Store. In 22 App Stores in 22 countries, there stood one app above the rest (now 19 of 22 as of the time of this article being published) in the free category: Opera Mini. If you are not in the US and you were looking forward to the delivery of your shiny new iPad, you’ll have to turn to eBay or employ a forwarding service in the US to actually get an iPad if your gadget lust can’t wait for another month to be satiated. Much to the surprise of .. well, not many apparently, Steve Jobs has announced that Apple will no longer be supporting or supplying updates for 1st generation iPhones. Suspicions began when iPhone OS 4 was announced and the iPhone 3G and 3Gs were mentioned. This development doesn’t come as much of a shock because people realize that technology is moving forward rapidly and nothing stays the same for very long anymore.
