Even Apple are Sick of the iPad, Will Show Off OS 4.0 on Thursday

Even Apple are Sick of the iPad, Will Show Off OS 4.0 on Thursday

Thank God! Finally, we can talk about something else Apple other than the iPad! Even though the tablet just launched to a veritable torrent of reporting, Apple have said that we’ll get a sneak-peek at the next generation of their mobile operating system at 10am, April 8th at Apple headquarters in Cupertino. The big rumor for months now has been the arrival of the ability to multitask. The lack of multitasking has often been seen as a significant knock against the iPhone – and now the iPad – so it’s possible Apple will be looking to address those concerns. Other rumors have included an improved maps…

Apple to Sell a Buttload of iPads In the First Year

Apple to Sell a Buttload of iPads In the First Year

While some of us here at Techi and around the blogosphere want an iPad, some don’t. Some even go as far to believe that a person is a “tool” for thinking that the iPad changes anything (harsh, Mr. Thurrott). However — no matter what the critics are saying — people are buying the iPad, and they are buying a lot of them. An analyst at Kaufman Brothers believes that iPad does change everything:  ”We believe iPad has potential to become a high volume device as it could revolutionize publishing and gaming markets, not to mention mobile computing itself.” Now a few hotshots on Wall Street are predicting…

The iPad Has Landed

The iPad Has Landed

I know, I know. You’ve had it up to here with the iPad, you have iPad fever, you’re iPadded out, you never want to hear another iPad word. But Apple’s tablet is both the most overrated and underrated product of 2010 so far, and one of the most important innovations crossing a number of different industries. The long term effect of the iPad on the publishing industry, journalism and my Grandma’s ability to send and receive emails remains to be seen. For today, we can just enjoy the show and check out all the new info coming out this morning. Why does my iPhone suddenly seems so small and underpowered? iFixit…

iCade, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

iCade, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo

Remember the iCade, ThinkGeek’s April Fool’s joke? Techi’s own James Mowery brought it to our attention yesterday. James expressed sadness upon revealing it didn’t exist. But James may not have to be sad forever! The buzz around the iCade is beginning to grow. Quite frankly, the iCade is a very necessary call to attention to a very untapped market. Currently, there does exist a gaming peripheral for the iPhone – well, sort of. A group of hackers in the UK developed the iControlPad in 2008 to work with jailbroken iPhones. But that’s a little less than legit. However it proves, if anything,…

Why I Will Buy an iPad (Eventually)

Why I Will Buy an iPad (Eventually)

With the impending US launch of Apple’s iPad, analysis and chatter has reached – well, fevered picth doesn’t even begin to cover it. Every technology-focused outlet I know of is talking about the device, and even the mainstream media is obsessed with it too. It was on Letterman for crying out loud. It is everywhere and tomorrow across America, people will be standing in line for one. Still it seems that, like with any major product launch, opinion is sharply divided between those who are clamoring for one and those who just don’t get it. And those who just don’t want one are making a pretty strong point….

Popular Science iPad App is Gorgeous and Functional

Popular Science iPad App is Gorgeous and Functional

Though you may be tiring of the iPad hype machine, this video of a forthcoming Popular Science may reignite – or create – some excitement for the device everyone can’t stop talking about. The clip is from Bonnier and Berg, who have already produced a great concept video about tablet magazines, and in it, they demonstrate not only how a magazine can look on the iPad but also how it needs its own sort of user interface. Rather than using the animated page-turn that seems to have become popular, users swipe left and right to move through pages and, when they come upon something they find interesting, swipe…

Apple Inc. Heading Towards Middle Age

Apple Inc. Heading Towards Middle Age

34 years ago today, two straggly hippies with a dream setup shop in a garage in Palo Alto, California. Skip forward to 2010 and Apple Inc. is one of the most innovative, successful companies in Silicon Valley. It’s been a rocky road at times, but no one can deny that having one of the most enigmatic and driven CEOs at the helm has been a huge plus for the tech giant. Between the dark days in the 90s under John Scully to the modern era of iWonder, Apple is a company that has truly earned it’s place in history. No longer simply a computer company, Apple changed from being ‘Apple Computer’ in 2007 to ‘Apple Inc.’,…

A Smart Addition to Your Car Comes From an iPhone App

A Smart Addition to Your Car Comes From an iPhone App

The makers of the Smart car have now created an iPhone application designed for cars that will allow users to turn their iPhone into a useful device while people are driving down the highway. The point of this iPhone application — supposedly called “Smart” — is to provide access to critical tasks you would need to perform in a car, and it provides an interface useful for drivers (big buttons, easy to use navigation, etc). …

STILL Need More Reasons Not To Buy an iPad?

STILL Need More Reasons Not To Buy an iPad?

Hey, did you catch the latest episode of Modern Family, that totally hip sitcom that rocks? No? Yeah, me neither. And now, I probably never will. Rule of thumb is that sitcoms tend to blow chimps by the herd, and last night the ABC turd made a legendary example of itself by becoming a 30-minute shameless commercial for the iPad. I don’t even know what to say about this. I’m a big fan of well-designed advertisements, but this is embarrassing and uncomfortable, even to watch alone. It fails as both an advertisement and entertainment. “Who’s ready for the first day of the rest of their lives?”…

Apparently Apple Wants To Sell All The iPads it Can Manufacture

Apparently Apple Wants To Sell All The iPads it Can Manufacture

In an attempt to reach new heights in the field of stating the obvious, an analyst today announced that Apple is selling every iPad it can manufacture, and that previous estimates for demand might have underestimated the iPad’s appeal. Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, frequent speaker on Apple’s products and financial standing,  believes Apple will sell between 200,000 and 300,000 iPads in it’s debut weekend and, similarly to the iPhone and iPod, should sell out at a large percentage of retail outlets. Shipping dates for pre-orders have been pushed back to April 12th, and current demand doesn’t…

April Fool

April Fool's: Why The Tech World Needs Its Annual Carnival

Last year, when YouTube decided to Rickroll all its users – i.e. send all video links to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna’ Give You Up” – there was a sense that April Fool’s pranks in the tech world had reached their peak. How could anyone top the ultimate self-referential prank that took a universal web joke and ‘made it official’? But if this morning is any indication, that’s far from the case. In fact, it seems that the blogosphere is positively lit-up with hundreds and thousands of stories claiming to be true, but are most definitely not. Google changing their name to Topeka? YouTube introducing ‘TEXTp’?…

The iPad Is Now Officially The Greatest Gaming System Ever!

The iPad Is Now Officially The Greatest Gaming System Ever!

The iPad has been declared as the greatest gaming machine ever — thanks to the iCade. It’s an impressive set of hardware and software for the iPad that will enable you to play your favorite old-school arcade games. When you purchase the iCade — courtesy of the folks over at ThinkGeek — you’ll receive a hardware iPad arcade cabinet that allows you to slide your iPad in to turn your iPad into an arcade-like screen, and the iPad slides into a 30-pin connector that allows the hardware to control the iPad with the classic  joystick and big red buttons. Following that, you’ll then launch the iCade…
