Geek picture of the day: the cassette iPod

Geek picture of the day: the cassette iPod

For those of old enough to remember the wonders of the original Walkman, it represented a new freedom that we had never known before. The ability to go in so many places and perform activities such as jogging and biking while listening to music made it epic. MP3 players and the iPod in particular changed that, of course, but now old-schoolers can reminisce with the Cassette Tape to MP3 Converter for the iPod….

iPhone 5 launch event scheduled for September 12

iPhone 5 launch event scheduled for September 12

Next week, all of the rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 5 will be confirmed, refuted, or left in the air. One thing is certain: September 12th will be the official Apple iPhone 5 event. Though the invitation they sent to tech magazines across the internet didn’t give many specifics, the clever play on the date with the shadowed 5 makes it pretty clear what the event is going to surround. Will it have a 4″ screen as rumored? When will it officially be available? Will there be major changes to the hardware, battery, or other components? Are they really rolling out a new type of charger? We’ll know…

A robotic universal remote that will make you say aww

The electronics device manufacture, Toshiba, best known for their televisions and computers, want to rid you from the dreaded remote control. They have recognized the many useless buttons and confusion some remotes have created among their consumers, and as a consumer I dislike unnecessary buttons myself. This is why Toshiba has created the most enchanting robotic remote control. His name is ApriPoko and his futuristic design is going to change the way we not only turn the channels on our TV’s but also the way we turn on and off our lights. ApriPoko is a talking robot that is voice operated by…

Is this the Blackberry 10?

Is this the Blackberry 10?

Blackberry news blog N4BB has published what is believed to be the first image of the Blackberry 10 L-Series smartphone. It looks legitimate as there is no handset that matches this look and feel of the screen. If so, it’s both good and bad news for Blackberry fans. On one hand, it seems to have the simplicity and “to the point” set of apps that traditional Blackberry users will enjoy. On the other hand, it does not have enough oomph to be able to compete with the iPhone or Android. Even those who are looking for an alternative will likely flock to the upcoming Windows 8 phones with their unique UI….

Glasses designed to save your neck

Glasses designed to save your neck

Many people love to lay in bed and read a book or Kindle. There’s a distinct physical challenge associated with the activity. Laying down comfortably means either holding the book up (bad for the arms) or tilting your head forward. Neither option is good for your neck. These glasses that we found on Reddit may be the answer (though we don’t agree with the name of the post itself – there’s nothing lazy about comfort). Mirrors. Simple….

Hacker group AntiSec leaks Apple device IDs to highlight FBI tracking

If reports from the hacker group are to be believed, the FBI has over 12 million Unique Device Identifiers (UDIDs) on file and now 1,000,001 of them have been leaked to the public. Using the AtomicReferenceArray vulnerability in Java, the group allegedly hacked into Supervisor Special Agent Christopher K Stangl’s notebook in March of this year and retrieved a file with information about Apple iOS device users. The file, named “NCFTA_iOS_device_intel.csv”, is claimed to have usernames, device names, device types, push notification tokens, zip codes, phone numbers, addresses, and other…

Clash of the titans: Google and Apple CEOs talking behind the scenes ahead of public battle

If you thought the battle between Apple and Samsung was big, you may be in for a mobile device war between the two largest superpowers if recent statements out of the Google camp are to be believed. Reuters is reporting that the new heads of the two companies, Google’s Larry Page and Apple’s Tim Cook, were in meetings last week that were expected to continue today but had to be postponed for unknown reasons. Apple won the first major battle over Samsung which many are considering a proxy war against the overall Android operating system. Mobile OS is considered both the present and future of computing…

Say what, an Instagram cam?

Say what, an Instagram cam?

Tis’ true my friends, hipsters and photographers of the world, soon we will be able to use a tiny camera that mimics the photo-sharing social sites logo and of course in retro style it will be a Polaroid instant camera. Although the only resemblance to the Polaroid will be the insta-picture since this is 2012 and we like things a little more digitized. There will be a screen to view the picture prior to taking the shot yet the Polaroid picture will look like it is seen on Instagram with your instagram name and avatar and enabling you the ability to add a personal touch at the bottom (put your permanent…

If you love to voice chat on your PC or Mac using Skype or load up your YouTube channel with some great video you need a microphone that goes beyond the mic that comes built-in on your computer. Can’t sleep due to the heat? Use a bed fan

It seems like summer is getting hotter each year, so much so that ceiling fans and fan stands just don’t do the trick anymore and though fans are more ideal than the electricity bill that comes with the cooling of an air conditioner we want choices. …
