HP/Palm Announce "TouchPad" WebOS Tablet, Looks Impressive

HP/Palm Announce "TouchPad" WebOS Tablet, Looks Impressive

Though WebOS never really got much traction, HP/Palm are looking to change that with today’s announcement of a new tablet based on their OS. Called the Touchpad, it seems HP/Palm are emphasizing the superiority of their interface more than any particular hardware features. That said, the specs for the device look impressive: Dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor 9.7″ display, at 1024×768 Full flash support Video calling with a front-facing camera Gyro/accelerometer and a compass 16GB/32GB storage 1.6 pounds, 13.7 mm thick From what we’ve seen so far, the device looks fast. And full flash…

N-3D: Your Smartphone, iPad Now Produces 3D Images

N-3D: Your Smartphone, iPad Now Produces 3D Images

I’m not going to attempt to explain how this is working because, to be honest, I don’t know how it works. But this seems to be a legitimate product straight out of Japan from a company called AirCord. It’s called N-3D, and there are many demos on their website (in Japanese) showing this thing off. It caught my attention because they have it hooked up to a Galaxy S. There are also other demonstrations of it working with an iPad. And, well, it’s cool. What I do know, however, is that the Japanese are amazing and that I want this, if only to amaze my friends for a few moments….

Every Man On Earth Will Want This Thing

Every Man On Earth Will Want This Thing

I’m not sure whether or not to believe what I’m seeing, but if what I’m seeing is true, this is huge for men. I know what it is like to be a man — primarily because I am one — and I know what it is like when you rub your hands over your face or head and you know time it is. You know that it is time for a shave. And if you’re anything like me, you hate this moment dearly. But what if we no longer had to worry about such a thing. (I know that this is probably fake, and I’m heading to the patent office right now.)…

Turn Your iPod Touch Into a Phone Using Its Own Packaging

Turn Your iPod Touch Into a Phone Using Its Own Packaging

You thought you were on the cutting edge of geek chic with that iPhone 4. You ain’t seen nothing yet. A Lifehacker reader known only as Kevin has taken an iPod Touch and, using a VOIP application and a pair of headphones, has rigged it all together using the device’s own packaging. A big of smoothing here and there (plastic edges are sharp, yo) and a rubber washer later, and voila – a DIY iPhone that’s sure to impress… er… somebody, surely. At the very least, it’s a conversation piece! …

Old Laptop Into Digital Frame? Sure, Why Not?

Old Laptop Into Digital Frame? Sure, Why Not?

Erik Pettersson isn’t about to spend over 100 dollars on a lame, featureless digital frame. And why should he, when he’s got an old laptop and a nice, modern picture frame from IKEA? Don’t answer that. This is too cool to suffer your smarmy comments. Running on Ubuntu, the once lap-worthy machine has been hacked to bits by Erik, who can now update the frame at will using VNC over WiFi. In the event that’s giving him guff, he’s left the keyboard open in the back for manual adjustments. Too rad. Sure, it has a cord running down the wall by necessity, but let’s be honest – this still looks way more attractive…

If You Hate Twitter, Charatter Bear Will Surely Keep It That Way

If You Hate Twitter, Charatter Bear Will Surely Keep It That Way

Some people just don’t like Twitter – and can they be blamed? An ever-shifting sand of mostly-idle information, a Twitter account following even less than 50 people can be a terrible, cacaphonous racket of nothing in particular. So how would you like to have every tweet read aloud to you? Japanese toy manufacturer WiZ isn’t about to wait for your answer, and has released the Charatter bear, a toy that – of course – reads incoming tweets in a shrill, grating octave. This particular author follows 52 people and receives a tweet about once every 90-120 seconds. Imagine how quickly this bear would drive…

And So, The Verizon iPhone Hype Begins

And So, The Verizon iPhone Hype Begins

We knew it was coming. If anything, it may have started later than most predicted. The Verizon iPhone hype is here. When it was first announced that the Verizon iPhone was near, we all knew that these two marketing masters would turn it into something bigger than it is. A carrier picking up an old product is normally not newsworthy… that is unless it’s these two giants. Now that we’re waiting, Verizon has decided to advertise just how agonizing the wait really is for many people. …

A Flip Phone That Smart Phone Users Can Dig

A Flip Phone That Smart Phone Users Can Dig

Flip phones were hot in the first half of the millennium. If you weren’t a stuffy business type with a Blackberry or Palm, you probably carried a flip phone. Then, the iPhone came and changed our world. Smart phones took over. The flip phone died. It’s back. Sort of. With three flexible AMOLED touchscreens, a smart triangular design, and sporting a custom Android interface, this artistic and functional design by Kristian Ulrich Larsen gives us a glimpse of how the smart phone generation can be flipped again. …

Hot Wheels Reaches Its Logical Conclusion With the Addition of Video

Hot Wheels Reaches Its Logical Conclusion With the Addition of Video

You may recall experiencing the unabashed radness that was Hot Wheels way back in the day – whether or not that day was 25 years or 25 hours ago. But either way, you’ll more than likely wish you’d have had one of these. Enter the Hot Wheels Video Racer, hailing straight from the ‘Couldn’t Come Soon Enough’ department. The toy does exactly what it says on the tin: it’s a typical Hot Wheels car. With a camera embedded in the front. That’s right – Hot Wheels enthusiasts will now be able to live their stunt tracks from a first-person perspective. The camera can shoot 30 or 60 fps, and like any tricked-out ride…

How to Pop Popcorn... With Lasers!

How to Pop Popcorn... With Lasers!

In case you had no idea what you were going to do this weekend, here’s a suggestion: popcorn. With lasers. But not just any lasers: Arctic Spyder blue lasers, the kind that if flippantly horsed around with, you could very literally unweld your retina from the back of your eye. Then you’d just have a floaty retina bobbing around in eye goo. And some unpopped popcorn. And nobody wants that. So if you’re going to try this, do be careful. Granted, not the most efficient way to pop corn. But considering the badassery that goes into every kernal, you’ll enjoy it that much more. This is, of course, assuming you…

The Environmental Impact of Cell Phones

The Environmental Impact of Cell Phones

Just in time for next month’s Verizon iPhone release, we present to you a bit of thought-provoking, guilt-tripping data. In this graphic by InfographicWorld was created for iAmGreen and brings to light some of the questions that nobody asks but everyone should. What happens to all of those cell phones that we simply stop using after we move on to the latest and greatest? How much power does it take to keep all of these cell phones running? Is it likely that this graphic will make you toss out (in the recycling bin, of course) your cell phones and go back to the age of landlines? Of course not, but it makes…

Google Goggles, Sudoku Champion Killer

Google Goggles, Sudoku Champion Killer

IBM might have the market cornered on beating chess champions, but Google Goggles on Android and iPhone has Sudoku mastered. As is customary for Google, their latest release of features includes a couple of very useful ones and one that is all fun n’ games (which may be very useful for some). First, their barcode reader on Android is upgraded to run much faster (usually under 1 second) and to work without have to push a “scan” button. Once the results are returned, the user must click on the link to see the details of the deal. All versions were updated to recognize print ads in major publications that…
